Abstract
The Zhijin-Nayong Coalfield in western Guizhou Province is well developed with marine-continental transitional facies and limestone markers, and thus became an ideal for studying sulfur characteristics and its paleoenvironment in coal.Based on geological exploration data and labor results of coal samples, the sulfur contents and distribution characteristics in coal as well as the relationship with paleoenvironment were studied in Hongmei Mine of Zhina Coalfield,Guizhou Province. The results show that in general the sulfur content of each coal seam is rather high, varied from a low sulfur to a high sulfur. In vertical direction, the sulfur content of different coal seams is reduced from high to low and from low to high.On the contour, the sulfur content in different areas of the same coal seam decreases gradually from the south east to the north west. The sulfur content in coal of No.7,21,23,27 seam formed transgressive period is up to 80%,distributed in the south east(near the sea side),and No.17 seam formed regressive period is a low sulfur coal. The increase of pyritic sulfur content is the main factor that leads to a high sulfur content of coal seam. The sulfur content and the influence of sea water in the study area has a direct relationship. The comprehensive analysis determined that No.6,7,21,23,27 seam in Hongmei Mine were formed in the shallow lagoon system under the influence of sea water and No.16,17seam were formed in the delta system less affected by sea water.
