  • Recent advances on the approaches for tar removal during coal gasification have been reviewed in this paper. Different types of methods, such as dry m ethod, wet method, electrical capture method, thermal cracking and catalytical reforming and others were analyzed regarding to their advantages and disadvantages. T he importance of reaction temperature, residence time and gasifying agents to catalytic tar reforming was emphasized. Particularly, a few widely- used catalysts for tar r eforming were carefully discussed. The future direction in the development of catalysts for coal tar catalytic reforming was suggested at the end.
